Enablers who unquestioningly back their actions.…
A narcissist will take a truth and distort reality to serve their own interests, recruiting flying monkeys and enablers who unquestioningly back their actions. This tactic allows them to control how others see them and to maintain power over their target.
For example, a narcissist might twist a simple disagreement into a story where they are the innocent victim and you are the aggressor. They share this version of events with mutual friends or family members, who believe their lies without question.
These people-known as flying monkeys-defend the narcissist and criticise you, often without ever hearing your side.
Enablers play a different but equally damaging role. They may not spread rumours, but they ignore or excuse the narcissist's behaviour. They say things like, "That's just how they are," or,
"You're too sensitive," making you doubt your own experiences.
This web of manipulation isolates you and makes it harder to stand up for yourself. Over time, you can start to feel alone, confused and powerless.
Recognising this tactic is vital. When you see how the narcissist distorts reality, you can step back, trust your own perspective and seek support from people who value honesty over drama.
